As every week goes by Rory McIlroy seems to be growing in stature and with doubts over Tiger Wood’s fitness going into the US Masters, the Northern Irishman seems to be the one everyone is talking about regarding winning the opening Major of the year.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a great start to 2012 so far, finishing second at the HSBC Golf Championship, losing in the final of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship and then securing his rise to world number one with a win at the Honda Classic.
McIlroy, who won the 2011 US Open in scintillating fashion, continued him impressive form at the World Golf Championships by putting in a late run for the title despite a poor start to the tournament. Those following the Betfair US Masters Golf Betting will have been impressed by his recovery.
It seems the popular star is coming to the boil at just the right time with the first Major of the season, the US Masters, just around the corner.
After his disappointments at Augusta 12 months ago all eyes are going to be on McIlroy, and many pundits and fans have predicted a shootout between him and golf’s previous poster-boy in the shape of Woods.
The former world number one limped out of the tournament with an Achilles problem and there are no doubts about his appearance at the US Masters. But McIlroy will be there, and he is determined to continue his run at Augusta. Those looking at the golf betting odds need to remember this.
“It’s been another good week,” he said. “This is my fifth event of the season and my fifth top five.
“It feels like every time I tee it up I have a chance to win. Now I’m looking forward to three weeks off to prepare for The Masters.”
Englishman Justin Rose won the World Golf Championships by one shot from Bubba Watson, with McIlroy a further shot back, and could have catapulted himself into US Masters contention win that biggest victory of his career.
