As a golfer you dream about playing against the best perhaps Faldo in his day or Tiger at his best or perhaps this years US Open champion Rory McIlroy? My dream recently became reality, well a virtual-reality when I had a go on the new Oakley You V’s online game.
The Oakley You V’s series has been designed to give you an insight into the list of a sporting professional using a personalised interactive video. The first in the series lets you race against Tour de France legend Mark Cavendish whist the second sees you take on McIlroy over 18 holes.
To play the game go to: http://youvs.oakley.com and click on McIlroy (this is also where you can select to go up against Cavendish or in the future other sports stars such as Kevin Petersen!) You will then be asked to sign in with your facebook account to allow the video to include personalisation such as images and your name.
The video starts by your caddy telling you your partner for the day hasn’t shown but the club have found a replacement!! A nice little personalised touch here has your facebook friends photos on the leaderboard!
You are escorted out onto the green where you meet none other than Rory McIlroy dressed in very smart black Oakley golf apparel, who tees up his first shot. Now it’s your turn but before you can take a swing you need to choose your eyewear. You have a choice of 3 Oakley Fast Jacket eyewear sunglasses and depending on which pair you choose your view in the video changes!
The game is played out giving you scores at the 9th,12thand 17thholes where it is all square. The 18thhole is where you need to make your decisions which will decide if you beat Rory or not. Choices include which club you’re going to use (you are given some info about the distance etc before you have to make your choice) and then depending on how that shot went i.e. if you’re in the bunker or water how you intend to play your next shot. You then find out if you’ve beaten the Irish master, been beaten or if it’s a draw.
The game only takes a few minutes and is a good bit of fun and the best part is if you do actually manage to beat Rory you will enter an exclusive competition to be in with a chance to meet the man himself. Not only that but you’d have the honour of caddying for him, walking around the course and watching him let loose some beautiful shots in the flesh.
